The class will be doing Tag Rugby for the next few weeks.  This will take place in school on Friday, if the girls can wear their tracksuits this day (as well as Tuesday & Thursday).  This starts on Friday 15th September.

If I was an animal...

The girls thought long and hard about what animal they would compare themselves to, with interesting results....

We pressed flowers!

There were some beautiful flowers growing in the school garden, so the class picked some of these, and we then pressed them in newspaper. We hope to use them later in the year to decorate vases....

PE timetable

Physical Education Clip Art - BiezumdGAA and PE will be on Tuesday and Thursday respectively, starting week of the 18th September.  At the moment, the girls will be doing PE with me on a Tuesday.

Welcome to Third Class!

Image result for school clipartDear Parents/Guardians, welcome back and I hope your daughter is well settled into school.

Reading
In the class, we will use a mixture of novels and stories from the class reader.  The more reading they do the better, and the local library is a great resource.  If any girl brings in her library card, and a library book she has taken out, she gets a homework pass as a reward!

Spellings
Class spellings will be based on letter sounds and patterns and high frequency words.  We encourage the children to identify the sound/pattern in each of the words as this makes them easier to learn. One of the most useful spelling strategies is the “Look, say, cover, write, check” method for learning spellings.  It can be useful to have a spare copy at home for spellings work (also useful for Gaeilge spellings).

Homework
While children in 3rd Class are often now working more independently, it is still very important for parents to continue to check their homework.  Homework should take no more than 30 minutes.  If your child is unable to do homework for whatever reason, please write a note to let me know.

Please also write a note when your daughter is absent.

A watch with the analogue clock face (with all the numbers) is a great help for learning the time in 3rd.

Friendship
A new Anti-Bullying policy issued in the past few years, and I would encourage you to have an ongoing discussion with your daughter about this (particularly safety when online).  We are having Friendship Week shortly and we will be focussing on friendship in our class and in the school.

Thank you for your help and cooperation and I look forward to the year ahead.
