Piet Mondrian art work

We looked at some paintings by the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian and responded with some of our own art work in his style.

Here is what some of the girls wrote about this artist & how they did the pictures:
  • What you need: Red, blue and yellow paint, black paper or a black marker and a rule.
  • What you do: Draw squares and rectangles, big and small on the paper. Paint in the squares. Then get black paper and cut it into strips, or if you want to go for the marker, you can use a ruler and a marker and line the page.
  • What I liked: It is colourful, it is nice, I like the squares and rectangles.

  • Who is the artist: The artist is called Piet Mondrian, he is a Dutch artist, from Holland.
  • How did we do the art: We got a ruler and carefully did lines to show the rectangles and squares.  Then we painted the squares and rectangles in red, blue, black, white and yellow.  We used them because they are the primary colours.  Then when they were dried, we got a black sheet of paper, but them up, but them in between the squares and rectangles, and then we were done!
  • What I liked: I liked everything about Piet Mondrian's art.

Croke Park

We will be going to Croke Park tomorrow, Wednesday 25th Oct to support the Johnstown A team.  Girls should bring a packed lunch as usual and a drink. If possible, it would help to bring these in a smaller bag to carry on the bus. Don't forget a coat!

Maths Day!

Last Friday we had Maths Day in the school.

The class used their 'Maths Eyes' to find Maths puzzles in the school garden:

We then brainstormed questions to ask for the junior, middle and senior end of the school:

The girls had great fun dressing up for Maths Day and asking each other questions about their Maths clothes:

Tree Day

As part of Tree Day recently, we collected leaves and printed with paint. We even found a tiny snail!

A bad case of stripes!

We read the book 'A Bad Case of Stripes' which tells of a girl who was afraid to be different to others - she didn't want to tell anyone she liked lima beans! She went through lots of changes until she was brave enough to say she liked them, and to be proud of being different. The class painted some pictures of their 'bad case of stripes'.
